How to submit your work

Please read the bullet points below to confirm you are eligible for The Doric Wilson Independent Playwright Award.

The submission window is April 30-May 30, 2021
OR until we reach 125 submissions.

Submit your work using this Google form here.

To be considered for the Doric Wilson Independent Playwright Award, you must be:

  • A resident of the New York City area for at least part of the year. NYC-area includes all five boroughs, and the nearby cities and towns in New Jersey. If you are a resident of Long Island, Westchester or Connecticut whose work is primarily done in the NYC independent scene, you may also apply. Philadelphia is not NYC.

  • A playwright whose work is mostly seen in the independent theater. Having had a play done Off-Broadway or at a LORT Theater or under some other kind of AEA contract does not disqualify you, but the body of your work should have originated/been produced in the independent theater.

  • Someone who actively contributes to the independent theater through work other than your plays.

Examples: you are the founder or creative staff of an indie theater company; you produce other artists’ plays; you work for a non-profit that focuses on theater; you run or work for an organization that helps indie theater artists; you promote indie theater work; you teach or coach emerging artists, or are an artist-in-residence or artist in the schools. If you have a question about whether something you do is a role to be considered, please email us at DoricWilsonAward@gmail.com

If you qualify for the award based on the guidelines above, please submit the following:

  • A full-length or long one-act play. The play can be produced or unproduced. If you are a solo performer, or write musicals, you can also include links to videos or audio of the work.

  • A bio or resume

  • An artistic statement (see FAQ for details)

  • Make sure we have your current contact information

Upload your work and supporting material as PDFs, with your name on all of them. (We will not reject you if you send us a .doc, but we’d prefer for your margins and page numbers to stay the same as when you wrote them.)
