The Doric Wilson Independent Playwright Award is given to a playwright of any age, whose writing and commitment to independent theater honors the innovation, uncompromising vision, heart, and spirit that represented Doric Wilson (1939-2011) and his work. In addition, the playwright is also recognized for being a community builder in the independent theater community.
The submission window for this year's award is from April 30-May30 OR 125 submissions.
The Doric Wilson Independent Playwright Award is given to a playwright working in the New York City area, whose work is primarily presented in the independent theater, and who contributes to the independent theater community through their service.
The playwright's work can be on any theme or in any genre (including solo performance and musicals).
Community service can range from work done with theater companies, non-profit groups that support the arts, and other actions which support and promote the independent theater community.
The winner of the award will be chosen by a committee of indie theater creators and will receive an unrestricted cash grant, and commemorative trophy, presented at the New York Innovative Theatre Awards
There is no fee to submit to the award.
